Contractor Problems in North Dakota: Complaints and Your Options

Short answerIf a contractor job goes wrong in North Dakota, here is what we could confirm on official pages: where to file a complaint, bond or insurance. Each item links to its source. Keep your contract, payments and photos.

Where to file a complaint

File online or print the complaint form and mail it. Anonymous complaints aren't processed. Consumer Protection's number is (701) 328-3404, or 1-800-472-2600 within North Dakota only. Source

Bond or insurance

A contractor must be licensed once a job's cost passes $4,000. For license renewal, the page lists a certificate of liability insurance and certification that payroll taxes, Workforce Safety and Insurance premiums and unemployment insurance premiums have been paid. The page does not mention a contractor bond or state an insurance amount. Source

This is general information, not legal advice. A topic we don't list means we couldn't confirm it on an official page, not that the protection doesn't exist.
