Contractor Problems in Nevada: Complaints and Your Options

Short answerIf a contractor job goes wrong in Nevada, here is what we could confirm on official pages: where to file a complaint, state recovery fund. Each item links to its source. Keep your contract, payments and photos.

Where to file a complaint

The board has complaint forms for licensed and unlicensed contractors. It can dismiss invalid complaints, issue a Notice to Correct that generally gives the contractor 20 to 30 days, start formal disciplinary proceedings, and suspend or revoke a license. Source

State recovery fund

The Residential Recovery Fund pays no more than $40,000 on a single claim. Claims against one contractor are capped at $750,000 or 20% of the account balance, whichever is lower. Apply within four years of completing the work, or within two years of a Nevada court judgment. The owner must live in the single-family home and have a contract with a licensed residential contractor, and must have exhausted other means of recovery. It does not cover court costs or legal fees.
