Contractor Problems in Missouri: Complaints and Your Options

Short answerIf a contractor job goes wrong in Missouri, here is what we could confirm on official pages: where to file a complaint, liens on your home. Each item links to its source. Keep your contract, payments and photos.

Where to file a complaint

Call the Consumer Protection Hotline at 800-392-8222, use the online Consumer Complaint form, or email consumer.help@ago.mo.gov. Source

Liens on your home

Missouri section 429.012 says the original contractor must give the owner a written notice before receiving any payment, warning that unpaid suppliers or workers can result in a mechanic's lien and that failing to get lien waivers may mean paying twice. Giving the notice is a condition for the original contractor's own lien. It does not apply to new residences with lien protection through a Missouri-registered title insurer. Source
