Contractor Problems in Georgia: Complaints and Your Options

Short answerIf a contractor job goes wrong in Georgia, here is what we could confirm on official pages: where to file a complaint, contract and cancellation rules. Each item links to its source. Keep your contract, payments and photos.

Where to file a complaint

The Consumer Protection Division takes complaints at (404) 651-8600, (800) 869-1123 toll-free in Georgia, or online. Licensing complaints go online to the Secretary of State at Source. The Secretary of State says boards have jurisdiction only over a license and can discipline only for a violation of the laws and rules. Source

Contract and cancellation rules

Some contracts of at least $25 made away from the merchant's regular place of business can be canceled within three business days. To cancel, sign and date the Notice of Cancellation and mail or hand-deliver a copy by midnight of the third business day, not counting Sundays or national holidays. The state's page says to use certified mail, return receipt requested, as proof. Source
